Save The Children
After facing humiliation on national television, two narcissistic celebrity philanthropists embark on a misguided PR stunt in Uganda - only to become unwitting pawns caught in the crossfire of the very crisis they pledged to solve.
SYNOPSIS
Celebrity Philanthropist Kyle Kettleman wants to save the world - and he and his brother Brad have become rich and famous in their life's pursuit to raise awareness of the horrors of child warfare and expose Ugandan war criminal Ezekiel Mambo through their viral content. When a disastrous live interview gets them cancelled as self-centered narcissists, they find themselves left with only one option - charter a flight to war-torn Uganda and film themselves actually making a difference.
Once in Africa, the Kettleman Brother's PR stunt is quickly derailed when they are abducted by Mambo and his guerilla child army, who have seen their video and plan on ransoming their unpopular hostages back to America - leading the brothers deep into the heart of darkness and setting off an international crisis in the process.
AUTHORS NOTE: Inspired by the KONY 2012 campaign and the founder's subsequent public breakdown, executed with the dark satire and class commentary of Tropic Thunder. We live in a world where even the charitable are corrupt, and themes of identity politics and authenticity make for a fun action-comedy that admittedly treads a fine line (it is a comedy about child soldiers after all) - but it works as long as the white guys are always the biggest assholes in any given room.
