Freshly released from prison, ex-convict Marvin Pickett is struggling to get back on his feet - he lives at home with his grandmother, and is under constant surveillance from his parole officer. But when Marvin finds himself caught in the midst of an armed robbery at the local grocery store, his violent nature comes in handy when he knocks the thief out cold, making him something of a local celebrity.

It's there he is approached by local proprietor Mike "The Knife" who invites Marvin to Neutral Corner, an unsanctioned backyard boxing league where locals fight one another for fame and fortune on YouTube. Intrigued by the promise of violence and money, Marvin joins the league, drawing him deep into a chaotic community that might be his one chance at using his violent talents for good - or could send him back into the criminal underworld he thought he left behind.

AUTHORS NOTE: Boxing (and combat sports in general) make for the best comeback / underdog stories - only in this one we're rooting for a violent, unlikable jackass to get back on his feet [think Eastbound and Down]. The backyard boxing scene is alive and thriving on Youtube, and beyond being an action-packed spectacle it also feels tied to an interesting subculture that lends itself to subversive and satirical commentary on poverty, success, and violence.
